The competition between Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio and all other telecom operators seems to heating up. In a move to counter the Jio effect all other telecoms are coming up with cheaper tariffs for data and call services.
Jio launched it’s “New Year Offer” recently not only for new subscribers but also extending the Welcome Offer(which was going to expire on 31 December this month) by another three months.
Airtel, the current leader in the Indian Telecom industry has geared up to battle against these sweet offers by launching new plans of it’s own.
It has launched two Infinity plans for postpaid customers costing Rs. 549 and Rs. 799 giving unlimited free calls across all networks to all the subscribers along with 100 free SMS per day and data benefits.
The Rs. 549 worth Infinity plan offers unlimited free local and STD voice calls to all networks, 1GB free data( for non-4G handsets), 3GB(for 4G handset owners) along with premium subscription of Wynk Music and Wynk Movie. The 799 plan offers the same benefits just with extra data, i.e., 3GB free data( for non-4G handsets), 5GB(for 4G handset owners).
Earlier this month, Airtel launched two new plans targeting prepaid customers. One pack worth Rs. 145 offers unlimted Airtel-to-Airtel calls( both local and STD) and 50 MB data(for non-4G handsets) and 300MB data(for 4G-enabled handsets). The other pack priced at Rs. 345 offers unlimited voice calls not only over Airtel network but to any network across India. The plan also offers 1GB 4G data (50MB for non-4G devices). Both the plans are valid only for a period of 28 days from the date of purchase.
The Indian customer is bound to be the biggest winner in the wars among the telecom operators, all competing to give the best services for the cheapest possible price. Reliance Jio has been a welcome change in the Indian telecom sector but to prove its worth and to be a financial success they need to prep up their infrastructure and improve their services. They need to solve the issues like call drops and irregular connectivity to be a major player after the Free offers end.
Please share your opinions on Reliance Jio, it’s effect on the Indian telecom sector. I am not a satisfied subscriber of Reliance Jio with little to no connectivity in my neighbourhood but being a free user who am I to complain? I wouldn’t have tolerated the pathetic service though had I been a paying customer. There must be more like me who have not raised a voice yet but will either port to other stable operator after the party ends or will just throw away the free sim if Jio doesn’t deliver it’s promise of a Digital India free from voice call charges and data limitations.
