The wait is over. The next Stable ROM for MIUI 8 is finally rolling out. This update supports Mi 3 and Mi 4 devices only, while the rest of the devices have to wait a bit longer.
With the new update, interface has become a bit smoother, new animations and sounds, new status bar icons list and other improvements. The Change Log looks promising with all the optimisations and bug fixes, & some much needed additions.
So here’s a quick overview of the new ROM :
New Features –
- WiFi – Ahh! we were waiting for this too long. Nothing’s more frustrating when your WiFi doesn’t connect automatically to your saved network and you have to scroll through that long list of weird WiFi names to connect to your network. Well, no more. With the new update the saved and available WiFi network will be displayed at the very top of the list. As a bonus gift, there’s a new animation for successful WiFi connection.
- Quick Ball – Almost every MI user has once used that sticky shortcut menu button for quick access and got annoyed but accidentally hitting it while pressing something else. With the new update, you can hide the quick ball by just swiping it to the edge of the screen. Also the new tap gesture is added to the quick ball.
- Gallery – It’s the 21st century. Everyone saves their photos on cloud drives. While earlier if you delete a picture from your device, it’s automatically deleted from your drive too. Maybe you were just creating some space in your device while having a back up of data at the cloud storage and you suddenly lost your data from both cloud and device. In the latest update, you can delete photos from device only when browsing offline albums.
Not only that but it’s easier to access albums in the new gallery. Swipe three fingers for screenshots and just slide down to exit full screen preview.
- Settings and Permissions Manager – Now it’s possible to delete the second space from the first space easily. A new password for Privacy Protection is also added. For the permissions manager, whenever you restrict a permission accidentally or voluntarily, a clickable notification is sent to you which can restore permissions. No more accidental breakdown of apps. New permissions are added for lock screen and background notifications.
- Sharing – Apps order in quick sharing is dynamically sorted by usage frequency. Sharing of photos is made easier by Automatic adjustments for photos when sharing.

A new Update doesn’t mean that everything is fixed and no bugs are present. While using the new ROM, in the first five minutes, we easily spotted two new bugs :
New Bugs –
- Bug – Turning On mobile data, shows 4G in the status bar instead of 3G.
- Bug – In messaging app, notifications tray slide down below new messages.
Both the bugs are reported to the Mi community. If you too found a bug in the new update, then comment down below. For complete Change Log, please visit MI Community and stay tuned to MeraPhone for more articles and updates …
